How to find your iPad model number

If you're looking to repair your iPad, you'll quickly run into the question: "Which iPad do I actually have?" It's not always as simple as it sounds — Apple's iPad naming is genuinely confusing — so if you're not sure, you're not alone. Here's how to find out for certain.

Find your model name or number in Settings

The easiest way is to open the Settings app → General → About. You'll see the friendly name (e.g. iPad mini 6, iPad Pro (11-inch)) on the line labeled Model Name. This is a relatively recent addition, so if you don't see it, you may be on an older version of iPadOS.

If the Model Name isn't shown — or you want the exact model — tap the Model Number line. At first you'll see something like MTFL2LL/A; that's the part number. Tap it once and it flips to the real Model Number (the Axxxx one).

Find it on the iPad itself

No access to Settings? The model number is printed on the back:

1. Flip your iPad over.
2. Look for the small print near the bottom.
3. You'll see an Axxxx number — if it's worn off, use the Settings method above.

Match your A-number to a model

Once you have the Axxxx number, find it in the chart below to identify exactly which iPad you own.
